This workshop is for those of mixed level ability (and not necessarily with pastels) who would like to learn more about pastel skills and becoming more expressive in your approach to subjects.
The focus within the workshop will be about layering colours, mixing and blending with soft and hard pastels to both draw and paint at the same time.
As a mixed media specialist, Robert will expertly guide you through pastel techniques on one of his favourite subjects - glowing light and dappled shade with a chance for you to delve into your pastel box and use lots of colour!
What you need to bring with you:
- Drawing board and upright easel. If you want to sit, a desk top easel is a good idea.
- Wet wipes.
- Soft and hard pastel brands of mixed colours. Please make sure you have plenty of dark spectrum colours.
Highly recommended are Unison Colour and Rembrandt pastels but bring what you have. Borrow top brands if necessary. They make all the difference. - Fixative - not hairspray - any brand.
- Reference photos will be provided for the duration of the workshop but please bring your own if you wish. If you do, then your own reference photographs should be printed out on at least A4 GLOSS photocopy paper. Ordinary copy paper - the colours sink in.
- Bring a piece of card to attach the photo to. You don't want it flopping about. It needs to be straight and propped to look at when pastel painting.
- Clips to secure your work to the drawing board.
- Masking tape.
- Notebook and pen and camera for taking notes and photos as a reminder of the workshop.
- A protective cover to secure your pastel on the way home so it doesn't smudge.
- An option to purchase pastel paper is provided from a choice of colours of Canson Mi-Tientes 'Touch' 350gsm pastel paper.
- A lovely micro abrasive sanded pastel support ideal for the workshop. £5 full sheet 50 x 65cm or £2.50 half sheet 50 x 32.5cm or bring your own preferred surface to work on if you wish.
